Recently in the news, you can see the various groups speaking about the short-lived win they had when The Susan G. Komen Foundation pulled their funding for Planned Parenthood.
Support abortion or not, the idea and support that the Komen Foundation provides to Planned Parenthood is not about abortion. The support they offer is in the form of identifying breast cancer. The mantra is “Save the BOOBies”.
Like it or not the priority should be stopping or finding a cure for breast cancer. Since it is not going to stop today or tomorrow, we must have preventative methods. In order to have preventative moments, we have to have the funding to assist those who cannot afford the mammograms. If a mammogram costs between $150.00 and $300.00, how are certain women going to pay for those mammograms? If you don’t have insurance and your life may depend on that opportunity for diagnosis.
I feel that we might have some priority problems here. First off, if Komen Foundation wanted to stop their support, they do not need to announce it across the world. They should just not approve the grant for the next fiscal year.
The backlash and mud-slinging of Planned Parenthood began should not have been done either. They know that they have controversial problems and they attract controversy. So why use the cry baby mentality?
This is about preventative measures. This is about a group of people, who are not fortunate to have the funds or the insurance to seek out diagnosis and treatment.
Now, please do not believe that I am pro-life or pro-abortion. I am merely stating that we need to fund diagnosis and treatment. It is sad when you read an obituary of someone who is 28 or 33 years of age and dies of breast cancer.
I advocate for diagnosis. So if you are a pro-lifer, then get off of your backside, start an organization that will allow the Komen Foundation to grant you the funds to conduct mammograms that will help those who can not afford the procedure. Then we can have the best of both worlds. A pro-life mentality and a way to discover and fight breast cancer.
If you are a pro-abortion supporter, then get off your backside and find a better way to articulate your stance when it comes to the identification of breast cancer. Create a better campaign to provide this service so that even the non supporter can at least agree that you are doing the right thing.
Its all about priorities and having the right frame of mind to have the best outcome for everyone involved.
