You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide

You can run, but you can’t hide is a saying that is well-known.  Well it is a true and accurate statement.  There were two things that happened yesterday to prove this statement once again.

A Tulsa Police Officer, working traffic enforcement observed a vehicle speeding.  After a high-speed chase, the driver thought getting away was possible.  Drive fast to a location, ditch the car in an apartment complex and have a friend take you to work.

After the car was found, papers were located and the suspect was identified.  Within hours the driver was arrested for outstanding warrants and eluding police.

The second example of you can run, but you can’t hide happened in California.  A member of the Winter Hill Gang, James Bulger was apprehended after the FBI changed tactics.  Bulger was known as “Whitey” and has a horrible reputation that includes murder.

James “Whitey” Bulger was wanted for murdering Mr. Roger Wheeler.  Mr. Wheeler was gunned down at Tulsa Southern Hills Country Club.

Tulsa Police Detective Sergeant Mike Huff had linked Bulger to the murder of Tulsa Businessman Wheeler.  Sergeant Huff’s career was spend solving this crime.  And today, with Bulger in jail, he will now face those charges.

Sergeant Huff had dedicated himself to solving the murder of Mr. Wheeler.  Huff spend years tracking down leads and information about this murder.  Sergeant Huff was able to expose issues within the FBI which lead to one subject being arrested and convicted of several crimes.  Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi had been apprehended and charged with multiple crimes and now serves time for these offenses.  The FBI agent who had enlisted them as informants is also serving time for his role with the Winter Hill Gang.

Sergeant Huff has been committed to solving Tulsa Murders for over 35 years.  Sergeant Huff recently retired, but retirement is not an option for a public servant so committed.  Sergeant Huff spend his career working murder cases, solving a high percentage of Tulsa’s murders.

Now Sergeant Huff is known for his new venture.  Solving cold cases.  Huff and several co-workers founded an organization called International Association of Cold Case Investigators (IACCI).  This group is going to work on cold cases and you can find their presence on Facebook.  Detailing crimes and victims.

This just shows you how committed Huff and his friends can be.  The families can rest assured that if there was a murder in Tulsa, OK, you had a dedicated group that worked above and beyond the call to solve that case.

Now the work begins.  Bringing “Whitey” Bulger to Tulsa for his role in Mr. Wheelers murder.  So stand by and watch, because you will see the dedication of a man, who has worked to solve almost every murder that has occurred in Tulsa.  Huff’s work continues, even though he is retired, he will play a major role in the trial of “Whitey” Bulger.

So you will see many congratulatory comments heading in Huff’s direction.  It was his relentless investigations and search for the suspects that made a difference to the victims families.

The book is not closed today, but merely the chapter has ended and a new chapter is being written.  Watch as the story unfolds.
